They announced their retirement in 1977, after which Telma decided to focus on her acting career.

In 1979, she debuted in an episode of the Golden Globe Award-nominated series “Roots: The Next Generations”, and then in three episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated “A New Kind of Family” (1979). Alongside Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari, Hopkins played in 37 episodes of “Bosom Buddies” (1980-1982), while in 1982, she appeared in the TV movie “The Kid with the Broken Halo” starring Gary Coleman and Robert Guillaume.

From 1983 to 1987, Telma appeared in 68 episodes of a Golden Globe-nominated “Gimme a Break!”, while concurrently in 1984, she had a role in “Trancers” with Tim Thomerson, Helen Hunt, and Michael Stefani.
